PLASTIC MULCH THICKNESS & LIFESPAN

Choose the film specification for the crop cycle, field conditions and installation method.

Thickness is only one part of mulch-film performance

Mulch selection should consider colour, width, length, micron, crop duration, UV exposure, climate, installation method, soil condition and the likelihood of mechanical damage.

Polywrap formulation guidance

Polywrap mulch film below 30 micron is formulated for seasonal use of up to six months under recommended conditions. Film from 30 micron and above can be formulated for use of up to 12 months under recommended conditions. Alternative formulations may be manufactured for specialised applications.

Typical selection questions

  • How long is the crop cycle?
  • Will the film be installed manually or mechanically?
  • How intense is the local UV exposure?
  • Is the field exposed to wind?
  • What colour and soil-temperature effect are required?
  • Is punched film required and what hole layout is needed?
  • What roll width and length suit the bed layout?

Important performance limitation

Service life cannot be guaranteed from micron alone. Actual field performance depends on formulation, climate, geographical location, UV exposure, installation, soil, agricultural chemicals, wind and physical damage.

Use the full mulch-film specification checklist or review black, grey and reflective mulch options.
